Our plot is based around the death of one of the main characters
that comes back to haunt the other characters during the two minutes. We made
sure the death was included in the flashbacks to make sure that the audience
could follow what had happened and didn’t get confused during the first two
minutes but also to draw them into the action as it will make them interested in how they
died and why.
We showed the names of the main actors during the first two
minutes to inform the audience before the film actually began and they were
placed over the actors who played those parts to allow the audience to put a
name to a face during the rest of the film. We also made sure that the main
title sequence was placed just as Piper vanished to allow the shock to sink
into the audience.
Our plot is non-linear due to the flashbacks during our film
to show what has happened in the past to give the audience some context to what
has happened previously and why a ghost has appeared without any reason so we
included the day Piper died during flashback form.
The music we used made the film build tension as it was slow
whilst the camera was moving through the living room which made the audience
begin to feel the tension right at the beginning of the film which led into the
horror genre. The bangs towards the end when the figure appears also make the
audience feel tense and fearful because of the volume and the sharpness of
them. As it ends on a children’s song it allows the audience to empathise with
the group and allow their fear to grow. The pace increased and decreased
depending on the action in the film to make the audience have a false sense of security.
The lighting towards the end of the film made the figure
look like a ghost as it was around the frame making her stand out and also make
the audience fear her because she isn’t human and they’ve just seen her dead
body.
Because of the editing around the flashbacks it makes the
audience jump because of the blurriness and the unsteady pace of it builds up
the suspense because it was hand held and it was fast paced which made the
audience unsure of the outcome.
